Tom Moon: 1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die

Tom Moon’s list is populated with many of the usual suspects amongst pop, rock, country, R&B, hip-hop, and blues. However, this list is more diverse than the average best-of-all-time list with ample representation amongst other genres including folk, musicals, jazz, classical, gospel, and world music. The list is primarily albums but occasionally includes a classic song. In addition, the list comes out to more than 1000 albums because he included some collections where more than one album was consolidated onto a single CD. The list is presented here alphabetically by artist, as in the book. Note: the book cites the year when recordings were released, but I have tried to list titles by the earliest dates of the recordings or compositions. For example, Moon may include a classical recording that was performed by an artist in the 2000s, but the original date of the composition goes back to the 1800s. In such cases, I have listed the work as by the composer and included the original date for when the work was first published or performed.
