Leonard Cohen is a folk-rock singer/songwriter and guitarist born 9/21/1934 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He died 11/7/2016. He also wrote the novels The Favorite Game and Beautiful Losers, six volumes of poetry, several documentaries. His album, The Songs of Leonard Cohen, ranks as one of the top 1000 of all time and Jeff Buckley’s cover of “Hallelujah” is one of the top 1000 songs of all time. He has been covered my numerous artists, as evidenced by at least three four albums – I’m Your Fan (1991), Tower of Song (1995), the soundtrack to I’m Your Fan (2006), and Here It Is (2022). Singer, songwriter, and pianist Jerry Leee Lewis was born on September 29, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He was considered a pionner of rock and roll with his aggressive piano-playing style and two classics (“Great Balls of Fire,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”) of early rock and roll. His career on the pop charts stalled in 1958 after it was revealed he’d married Myra Gale Brown, his first cousin, once-removed, when she was 13 years old. He continued to be a presence on the country charts, where he landed 65 chart entries from 1957 to 1989, six of which went to #1. He died on October 28, 2022 at 87 years old. This country singer/songwriter was born Loretta Webb on April 14, 1932 in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. She was 15 years old when she married Oliver Vanetta “Doolittle” Lynn. They were together until his death in 1996. She landed her first song on the country charts in 1960 and went on to have more than 50 top-10 hits on the country charts of which 24 went to #1. She also had 11 chart-topping country albums. The 1980 movie Coal Miner’s Daughter was based on Lynn’s life. Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for her portrayal of Lynn. She died on October 4, 2022.
