Simple Minds A Retrospective: 1977-2026

Overview: Rock band formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1977. Only singer Jim Kerr and guitarist/keyboardist Charlie Burchill have remained consistent through the band’s entire history. They started as “an arty punk group. Kerr’s natural disposition, however, wasn’t for the self-pitying navel gazing of Echo & the Bunnymen or the other post-punk groups. Kerr was a naturally optimistic man, excited and overawed by the possibilities of art and personal expression. Kerr was a true romantic. In Burchill he had a foil that could provide vast musical soundscapes onto which Kerr could muse. The Minds embraced electronics – they embraced the sounds coming out of the clubs – and they turned them into pop.
