About the Song:Singer and actor Xiao Zhan, also known as Sean Xiao, was born in 1991 in Chongqing, China. He rose to fame through his participation in the TV talent show X-Fire in 2015. He became a member of the Chinese boy group X Nine and started an acting career in 2016. WK1 In 2019, he and Wang Yibo starred in the TV series The Untamed. In January 2020, a fan fiction site known as Archive of Our Own started posting a serialized novel which portrayed the actors in a same-sex affair. FO Fans of Xiao Zhan were upset by what they considered explicit pornographic content and feminization of the star. By February, the site was banned in mainland China. Users of Archive of Our Own responded with calls to boycott products and brands associated with Xiao Zhan. There were reports of cyber violence against the singer and his fans. WK3 On April 25, 2020, Xiao Zhan released the single “Spotlight” which featured lyrics in Chinese and English. The cover art for the single was created by Xiao Zhan. The song became a rallying point for fans determined to fight against censorship. FO In its first 24 hours, “Spotlight” accumulated 24.37 million downloads. Fans reportedly bought an average of 66 copies each of the single. GW By January 4, 2023, it was reported to have sold 54.31 million in digital sales, setting the Guinness World Record as biggest-selling digital single.
