About the Song:Country singer Ella Langley was born Elizabeth Camille Langley on 5/3/1999 in Hope Hull, Alabama. She released her debut album, Hungover, in 2024. It produced two top-10 country hits – “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Weren’t for the Wind.” The songs also reached #30 and #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively. Still, no one could have guessed just how big she was about to become. In late 2025, she released “Choosin’ Texas” as the lead single for her sophomore album, Dandelion. It wasn’t a surprise that it reached #1 on the country charts before the year was out. What was a surprise, however, was how big it became on the pop charts. In February of 2026, it climbed all the way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was knocked from the pinnacle the next week, but came back. As of August 8, 2026, that had happened five times with the song, racking up 16 total weeks on top on its way toward one of the biggest #1 pop songs of all time. The song grew out of a writing retreat in October 2024. Country singer Miranda Lambert shared some funny stories with Langley, including the time she was pulled over with her pet kangaroo in the passenger seat. The officer cut her some slack upon seeing Lambert’s Texas license plates. This inspired Langley to come up with the line, “She’s from Texas, I can tell” and the song “Choosin’ Texas” in about a half hour. WK The song, however, is not about humorous observations on Texas but a woman who suspects her lover is about to leave her for a Texas woman. She laments that his heart has always belonged to Texas but she doesn’t seek revenge; she “takes the Dolly Parton route, channeling ‘Jolene’ levels of grace and heartache.” SF Holler’s Caitlin Hall noted that the song has “that modern Country Radio polish but still keeps its twang.” WK Billboard’s Jessica Nicholson said, “The production, the rhythm, the message and Langley’s unmistakable voice meld mightily to make this an irresistible track.” WK Resources:Related Links:
