The Smashing Pumpkins were an alternative rock band formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1988. The original members were Billy Corgan (vocals/guitar), D’arcy Wretzky (bass), James Iha (guitar), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums). D’arcy left in 1999 and was replaced by Melissa Auf der Maur (1999-2000). The group went on hiatus in 2000. Corgan and Chamberlin formed the short-lived group Zwan before reviving Smashing Pumpkins in 2006 with Jeff Schroeder (guitar/keyboards) and Ginger Pooley (bass: 2006-10). Other members have included Mike Byrne (drums/keyboards: 2009-14) and Nicole Florentino (bass/keyboards: 2010-14). James Iha returned in 2018 on guitar and bass.
