About the Song:

Singer/songwriter Olivia Dean was born in London in 1999. After releasing four EPs, she released her first album, Messy, in 2023. It gave her a top-20 hit in the UK with “Dive.” Her next album, 2025’s The Art of Loving, was even bigger, generating top-five his with “Nice to Each Other” and “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” as well as “Man I Need,” “a glimmering single” RS’25 that topped the UK charts and reached the top 5 in the United States.

“Man I Need” is “a smooth and soul-leaning track that highlighted her knack for understated and emotionally grounded songwriting.” NP A playful piano melody runs as Dean leads with an alluring sense of glamour and self-assuredness.” RS’25 “With its soft textures and immediate melodies, ‘Man I Need” recalls the soul-pop of the mid-’00s – a sound that’s long been out of vogue in popular music.” BB’25 Rolling Stone said “the record feels as though it’s existed for decades, yet it sounds brand new on each listen.” RS’25

“And while Dean’s influences are clear, the British singer-songwriter imbues the song with a forceful yet inviting sense of personality, transcending pop trends to deliver a breakthrough unstuck in time. ‘Man I Need’ is familiar but fresh, the sound of a new star stating her intentions plainly and scoring.” BB’25

“Man I Need” is that “exists in a world where communication with a crush is as simple as a warm three-note keyboard riff, and a deep yearning can be solved with the straightforward declaration: ‘Come be the man I need.’” BB’25 She “sets her standards high and leaves no room for settling.” RS’25
